Department of Customs Studies

The Department supervises conduct of customs programmes for both undergraduate and non-degree programmes.  This department is accredited by the National Council for Vocational and Technical Education and Training (NACTVET) to conduct competence-based programmes up to NTA 8.

The Customs Studies department administers the following programmes:-

Department for Tax Studies

The Tax Studies Department supervises the conduct of taxation programmes for both undergraduate and non-degree programmes.  This department is accredited by the National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET) to conduct competence-based programmes up to NTA 8. 

The Tax Studies department administers the Bachelor in Customs and Tax Management (BCTM) Degree programme.

 

Department for General Studies

The General Studies Department supervises the delivery of fundamental modules for programmes conducted by other academic departments. Currently, the department does not have a programme of its own.

This department is accredited by the National Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (NACTVET) to conduct competence-based programmes up to NTA 8.

 

Postgraduate Studies Department

The Postgraduate Studies Department is charged with the coordination of all postgraduate programmes. Currently there are four programmes which are administered by this department namely:

 

Admission, Registration and Examinations Department

 

Department for Short Courses

The Short Courses Department is charged with the responsibility of administering tailor made and customized programs for TRA staff and other stakeholders such as Zanzibar Revenue Authority (ZRA) and Local Government Authorities. 

Currently, the department offers the following examinable programs:

 

Research and Consultancy Department

The Institute has a well-established department that coordinates research and consultancy activities. Through established Memorandum with various institutions as well as competitive funding, the institute undertakes consultancy assignments both within and outside the country in the areas of local revenue collection and mobilization, taxation policy, capacity building for revenue collection staff, property taxation, taxation of multinational enterprises and development of revenue collection and accounting systems.

 

Library Services Department

The department offers professional library services to students, TRA staff and other registered users. The Institute’s Library has a capacity of up to 145 readers at a time and is well resourced with about 1,481 book titles in more than 12,598 volumes of which 82 titles are journals in 356 volumes.

 

In addition, the library subscribes to various online information resources and equipped with more than 50 computers with internet connectivity for information search, surfing and computing
